About Olema

The ‘Gateway to the Point Reyes National Seashore’ is Olema California. The area of Olema and the surrounding localities were former settlements of the Miwok Native Indian Tribe that populated northern California for so many centuries before the Europeans came. The name ‘Olema’ comes from the Miwok Indian word for ‘coyote’. This is a great name for the town of Olema California as like they coyote the town is small and yet very intelligent and economically thrifty!

Before the trip to Olema California is made, it is great to have a little bit of background about the area. In the late 1800s, when the commercial venture of login was the number one activity on the Inverness Ridge area, the town of holding a was a ragtag row of card rooms, bars, saloons, and locations of ill repute. Although the size of the town of Olema California would never grow much bigger than it was in 1874, Olema’s nightlife gained in popularity and became one of the most well-known areas for workers who wanted to relax and have a good time! The town of Olema California is a great tourist destination since it combines the beauty of the natural Northern California location to the thrill and wonders that is the middle of Miwok Native Indians.

This lovely little hamlet of Olema California is only a stone's throw away from San Francisco and makes for a perfect weekend getaway vacation. Try hiking the Bear Valley Trail; visitors will be able to see for miles once the top of the famous Arch Rock, is achieved. Many visitors flock to the many great shops and restaurants that are part of the downtown atmosphere of Olema California. There is even a large Indian-Hindu area which is the precursor to Hinduism, of the Indian ethnic peoples that came from as far away as Mumbai! This is one of the most interesting aspects of all of California, the variety of ethnic cities and the color of the people that make Olema California a melting pot of sorts.
