About San Rafael
The town of San Rafael California was once the site of several Native Indian villages. Awani-wi, Ewu, and Shotomko-cha, were all very influential Miwok Native Indian villages, and some of the artifacts can still be seen while in San Rafael California. The town of San Rafael California was founded as the 20th Spanish mission in the colonial Mexican province of Alto California. The almond and mission was founded by for Fathers of the Spanish mission; Father Narciso Duron, Father Abella, Father Luis Gil y Taboada, and Father Junipero Serra created the city and mission and named the town after the Arch-Angel Raphael, who is the Angel of Healing in the religion of Christianity. San Rafael California is so full of cultural and historical excitement; it makes for one of the best northern Californian dream-vacations of all time!
For the vacationing family, San Rafael California has some the best seafood in all of California! The Seafood Peddler, in downtown San Rafael, serves some of the finest catches from local waters, such as flounder, cod, and Atlantic salmon! If seafood is not on the list of places items to eat while in San Rafael California, then try a little taste of India at Lotus Cousine of India. This casual dining Indian experience has the best in authentic and wonderfully flavorful Hindu as well as Indian Cousine. There are so many varieties of truly great and very traditional international dining experiences, while in San Rafael California, it might just be time to hit the gym after this family fun-filled vacation!
If all the running around and eating the fine food of San Rafael California has made the entire crew exhausted, then it is time to lay it down at the San Rafael Inn. This conveniently located Travelodge sits at the top of downtown San Rafael California and offers easy access to both Highway 101 and 280.
